Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway with Ada Adams, author of ReAwakened

Today I have a special guest, Ada Adams on the blog to share her inspiration for her series Angel Creek. ReAwakened, the second book in the series is currently on tour, and this is my stop. Check out the link below to follow along on the tour.

Main Inspiration for Angel Creek

My Vampire Obsession

I have “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to thank for cultivating my interest in vampires. I used to watch the show when I was younger and it quickly became one of my favorites. Buffy was such a kick-butt character with a lot of snark and cute vampire boys vying for her attention. It was because of the show that I began to read books and watch films about vampires (and that I got my black belt in Karate)!

Society’s Vampire Obsession

One of the main inspirations for writing “ReVamped” was our society’s obsession with vampires. It’s no secret that our world has always had a fascination with vampires. The popularity of “Twilight” and subsequent projects sparked an even bigger fascination—one leading to an obsession. By 2010, vampires were everywhere! On television, in bookstores, on the big screen…taking over the world! I was very intrigued by this mania and wanted to take a bit of a different spin on the genre by exploring a lighter side to the undead and addressing the question: “what would happen if vampires actually existed and decided to come out of the coffin?”

I have always been a writer, but most of my writing centered on more contemporary works. I very rarely ventured into the paranormal, and have definitely not explored “the funny”. However, around the same time that the vampire craze was at its peak, I also noticed a big surge of comedic shows (“The Office”, “30 Rock”, “Parks and Recreation”) as well as some really funny indie web shows that had hilarious writing and acting. When I came up with the idea of “revamping” vampires, I also decided to mix in some comedy into the twist on the genre. That’s how the idea for “ReVamped the TV Show” was born!

The Script

Inspired by our society’s vampire obsession as well as the comedic shows, I set out to create a script for “ReVamped”. The story at the beginning was much different from the final product, and it was a lot of fun to see the many changes (even the MC’s names!) occur in each stage of the draft. I’ve always imagined the story and its characters as a “movie” in my head, and it definitely puts a smile on my face when readers tell me that they do too!

Lack of Funds

Once the final draft for the Pilot episode of “ReVamped” was complete, and the rest of the season was plotted out, I realized that there would be no feasible way to create “ReVamped” as a show. At least not in the high quality and great magnitude that it deserved. Therefore, I let the script sit on my computer for a few months (maybe even an entire year) and concentrated on other projects. I never thought that I would get back to “ReVamped”.

The Characters

The characters played a large role in my desire to write the novel. When I had completed the initial script, I traded it in for some other projects. However, Dawn, Sebastian, and the gang wouldn’t leave me alone. They kept invading my mind every night, growing and developing into something bigger and more defined. Therefore, I knew that I had to tell their story (or never get another night of sleep)! Sharing their stories was a big inspiration to me. As I continue to work on the series and they keep developing and maturing, I only grow more and more attached. I love them dearly!

Love for Writing

Writing is sometimes a lonely career. I often spend countless days working on my computer, unable to share the projects with anyone for months until they get to that “readable stage”. Even as I go about my daily routine, my mind is often plotting away or hanging out with the characters. It can be lonely and scary (what if I spend months working on something that everyone hates?), but my passion for writing definitely inspires me to never give up. I find that one of the biggest inspirations for both “Angel Creek” and any of my other projects is my love for writing and storytelling. It’s simply too much fun to get to create unique stories and characters (and even more fun to mess with them)!

The Readers

My readers are a huge inspiration for “Angel Creek” and my other projects. The support that I have received from bloggers and readers truly means the world. It’s always fun to see how something that I’ve written effects the readers, both in a positive way by entertaining them, but also in a way that makes them question what they read (would I have made the same choice as that character? why or why not?)…I love writing about imperfect characters that make readers think. My next contemporary series focuses on a whole group of them!

Publication Date: November 27th, 2012
Becoming a vampire guardian was Dawn Fairchild’s ticket out of the Scarlet House. Fresh off a successful mission, life in Angel Creek should have been great. But when her sort-of-maybe-boyfriend, Sebastian, disappears on a quest to help a beautiful vampire from his past, Dawn finds herself amidst a web of danger, lies, and deceit.

Joining forces with Razor, an enigmatic rebel lacking both a verbal and a physical filter, and her band of Misfits—Brooke, Sophie, Hunter, and Seth—Dawn is thrust into a race against the clock to solve the mystery surrounding brutal Born kidnappings and come to terms with the sudden discovery of her own unique powers. With time ticking away and Born vampires’ lives in jeopardy, it quickly becomes evident that someone—or something—desperately wants Dawn and is willing to shed any amount of blood to get her.

Dawn has only one chance to face her demons and overcome all obstacles standing in her way as she embarks on the biggest mission of her life—one that threatens a deadly outcome for all involved.
