Friday Teasers: Book Beginnings, The Friday 56, Teaser Tuesdays, and Trailer

I've been reading this book off and on. It's a little different than I expected. I hope to finish it sometime within the next few weeks so I thought now's a good time to tease you with it!

This week's teaser book is

Wildefire by Karsten Knight

Every flame begins with a spark.

Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.

Book Beginnings:

Book Beginnings on Friday is a weekly meme hosted by A Few More Pages where we answer the question, "So, what is the first line of your current read, and how did you like it?"

The first line is
Ashline Wilde was a human mood ring.

For some reason I just keep thinking of the shape of a mood ring, then wondering how she could be so tiny and spherical. And then realising it's meant as a metaphor, not a literal description of her physical appearance.

Teaser Tuesday:

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

 My teaser is...

But then she heard a chorus of giggles and discerned two additional shadows darting among the bushes that lined the front walkway. it was the excited chatter of girls reveling in the thrill of doing something illicit and enjoying it far too much.

The Friday 56

is hosted by Freda's Voice
*Grab a book, any book.

*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.

It's that simple.
On page 56 of Wildefire by Karsten Knight:

"If you're going to taunt me at least do it in my own language, bro," said Rolfe.

Official Teaser:

You can read THE FIRST CHAPTER online thanks to Simon & Schuster.

This is probably one of my favourite author videos ever. In fact, it made me go out and purchase the book immediately! I love Karsten's vlogs and blog entries on his site. He's so funny. You should check him out.

Thanks for checking out my teasers. If you'd like to learn more about this book you can go to the Goodreads page. This book is available through Amazon, The Book Depository, and more. Click on the buttons to be taken to their pages.

  1. Good 56! And true if you want a response... LOL
    Thanks for participating!

  2. Hi!
Sounds like an interesting book. I'll have to check this one out. Have a great day!

  3. :) That beginning made me smile, but I had a hard time picturing it in my mind, like you did. I tried to imagine her changing colors like a mood ring, but somehow I doubt that's what it means.

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!

  4. Ashline Wilde sounds a bit temperamental :-)

  5. The synopsis and teasers make this one sound interesting. I think I would like it, I'll have to check it out.
