Note: On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own 'On My Wishlist' post. If you want to know more click here.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

Summary:

Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world.

Mackie would give anything to live among us, to practice on his bass or spend time with his crush, Tate. But when Tate's baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably into the underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem. He must face the dark creatures of the Slag Heaps and find his rightful place, in our world, or theirs.

When I originally saw this book the cover really turned me off. I mean, knives and scissors hanging over a baby carriage? The thought of it just really doesn't sit well with me. But then later on I finally read the summary and I also read some guest posts by Brenna Yovanoff and the story sounds so good and creepy. I'd still prefer a different cover maybe but I do really want to read it now, enough that I'd even want my own copy!

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

  2. @Small Review - Thanks for the link. I thought I had seen another cover somewhere but it escaped me. I'm kind of warming up to the disturbing-ness of this one though. I'll have to see how I feel when I decide to buy it!
